You just have to bite your lip and tough it out. It is kinda cute though, her enthusiasm and better that people want to interact with you than the opposite.
You just have to take the rough with the smooth, do you really want to be rude to someone so lovely?

No, but I do want her to go away and leave me alone. It would have been much easier if I was okay with being rude to someone so nicey.

Well you should not see this as a vice but a virtue. That lady is someones daughter, wife, sister, I doubt they would appreciate you or anyone else being rude to her.

Or learn how to say 'I don't speak English in another language', or just say 'Sorry, no English' in a heavy accent. That would have to be your opening statement though

Lol. I've got to get better at pulling these little lies out of my head at a moment's notice. They all sound so handy.

Tell them to F*** off and rather than bothering me, attend Church.

That way you can be both rude and spread the message.

I have yet to meet a Christian who behaves otherwise.

Actually at my Church, people are super polite.

It doesnt seem natrual.

When I go to Church I want a message the is like a punch in the gut, hard hitting, an all or nothing message, not just luke warm politness.

Personally, my overriding experience of Christians, when "spreading their message" as you put it, has been one of narrow minded, judgemental intolerance and bombasticism.

I don't see it as a vice. Hence, why I wasn't rude to her, and why I was wondering how to nicely regain my treasured solitude.

Could you say, " I'm sorry, I had a day in hell, please don't mind if I just want to read. I don't have the energy to talk." If she continues, get up and change seats.
Just a thought.

Yeah... That's simple. Why can I never think of these simple ways of putting things? And why can't being clearly more involved with the book be enough?

I think its great you did not want to hurt her feelings. I also try to be very polite and not hurt anyone but there comes a time, when being polite does not work and the subtle clues given does not work and we just need to speak our mind.

I would never start a conversation with anyone sitting with an open book in their laps, to me that is rude because its obvious they are reading so unless its something important I need to mention, I would let them be.

I think the best thing to do is be firm and honest, "I'm really sorry but I only get an hour a day for me time and this is my me time" type comment.

I do know what you mean, I had someone ask me to come over. I told them I was really tired, which I was but they insisted and told me they would stay for 20 minutes only to show me something. After am hour, my eyes were closing, I was so tired and yawning and kept saying, I really need to go to sleep. They did not pick up on that. I left the room, got in my pyjamas, had my make up off and the whole bit and walked out and announced I was going to bed. I did nto care then if that was rude.

If she's anything like me, there's nothing you can say that wouldn't sting.

Just ignoring might seem the best way.
