Statistically across the US, 40% are Democrat, 30% Republican, and 30% Independent, right? Something like that? And yet, during a time in which Democrats have consistently been in the majority of the US population for a good amount of time, why is it that more Republican's have been elected than Democrats? Are Democrats more likely to assume everyone else will vote so they don't have to, or what? Even Obama said, "Never underestimate the ability of Democrats to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat." Is it a general out look, more of an individual responsibility outlook in Republicans that makes them more likely to turn out in an election maybe?

well i think it depends alot on distribution of population since the over all majority doesn't matter as long as most states can win republican.
so if there was twice as many democrats it wouldn't matter if they all lived in new york, know what i mean?

A lot of democrats I know are younger and not into politics so they fail to vote. Sometimes they agree one vote does not count. We are living in an age where the intelligent are to pessimistic to take steps to better the predicament because they do not think one person can make a difference. I am tired of this mentality.

I just took the political compass and I am close to Gandhi SCORE!

That's true, democrats tend to be younger, and younger people vote at a lower percentage as well.

...on that point, I wonder if younger voters being democratic represents a shift in our future society, or if people tend to become more conservative as they get older?

I see a shift coming but at the same time I could see it being different then you see. But that rant is for another day.
