Along with Americans who are third party voters,

Quote:
The report warned law enforcement agencies to watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers for third-party political candidates such as Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin

and also

Quote:
individuals with "radical" ideologies based on Christian views, such as opposing illegal immigration, abortion and federal taxes

There are 'left' 'right' and 'way off base' extremists on any topic ever thought up . This is a fact .
And the word 'extremists' is self explanatory IMO.
But for Home Land Security to go so far as to insult , disrespect and blatantly accuse our returning troops of being
'potential terrorist threats' because they are US vets returning home after having done the job they were sent to do .
Is Just Damn WRONG! If our Vets ,the Christians third party voters and Americans having 'NON PC 'views opposing illegal immigration, abortion and federal taxes are being lumped in the same mess as 'extremists' . When I think of extremists groups like the KKK, and the black Panthers , or the Oklahoma bombing , 9/11 etc... comes to mind. Not Americans exercising their rights to the 'Freedom of Speech" or fulfilling their responsibilities as Americans by voting their conscience ( I keep picturing Johna thans siggy during last election year )or Vet's coming home from a war this country trained and sent them to fight.
This has a familiar stink about , at least these troops will be acknowledged as having been fighting a War and not 'a police action ' or 'a conflict' but is the insult and disrespect any different to be classified a 'potential terrorist threat' ?

The very first sentence of the article is a live link to the homeland security report.

This is a link to the article about the report.

I wonder why that is??

Could it be that they are maybe a little more wise about what the hell is happening over there, having witnessed it first hand??

You maybe correct .

Or is the 'Left' just looking for potential threats to their 'control ' I mean security plans?

I don't disagree, but.... where were you when this report came out? This was big news, back in April.

The only thing that can be remarked, now, is that the DHS has not retracted it. And that is still wrong!

First of all, this is old news from April. There's probably a topic about it somewhere already but I dont' feel like searching for it.

Second, this report was ordered by the Bush administration, so I highly doubt it's due to "leftist" views

And they came out with one a few months before this one about left-wing extremists, with the difference that nobody noticed or cared.

And your source Weird Nut Daily isn't exactly reliable.

And in any case, the report was pulled.
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/14/report-citing-vet-extremism-is-pulled/

Further, you put the term "potential terrorist threat" in quotes, as if someone had said that. Nobody said that. The report said that returning veterans might be targeted by terrorists for recruitment, which is something else altogether.

And let's also not forget that this report is not without precedence. Timothy Mcveigh was a veteran. Nobody ever insinuated that most or even a substiantial number of veterans might be susceptible to such beliefs or actions.

Thanks for pointing that out, Tino. I thought that is what I had recalled, but I was not watching where the link to that publication was actually taking me. Thus, my astonishment that it was still being 'offered' by DHS. My statement was in error, and my astonishment misplaced.

I am aware that this is a US issue and I am just a Brit, looking in from across the big pond, but........

We have had problems in the past with servicemen and ex-servicemen who become involved with extremist political parties.

Now, I'm no psychologist so I am only playing Devil's Advocate here, but I believe there can be an element of disiillusion amongst some service and ex-service personnel. Some come home from the conflict having been through significant trauma. Some may have been wounded, some may have seen their friends killed. They may have suffered tremendously and (not unreasonably), they wonder what the hell it was for.

There have been instances in the UK where such persons have come home and left the service to find it is difficult to get a job in civilian life. Difficult to get housing, difficult to readjust. Add to this the perception that there is "runaway immigration" in Britain and that economic migrants...... particularly muslims...... only have to hold out their hand and they get everything, then resentment can set in. Some still see muslims.... all muslims.... as the enemy long after they have stopped fighting the war.

This is where extremist groups, such as the BNP (British National Party) step into their lives. The BNP are an extremist group with very strong racist motives. They drape themselves in the Union Flag, they call themselves the party of the Real British People. Disillusioned ex-servicemen are prime recruitment fodder for them.

A man's service to his country is recognised in many ways (and so it should be), but it doesn't set anybody up as being "special" citizens. Once a serviceman returns to civilian life, he becomes just another citizen. No more and no less than every other person in society.

You can't play "The Old Soldier" all your life.

That may sound harsh, but it's the way it is. There comes a time when they have to leave the armed forces and stand on their own two feet out in the big, wide, hard world. They are subject to the same law as everybody else, they are subject to the same stresses and strains and pressures as everybody else.

The umbrella that sheltered them when they were "in the mob" is taken away. And the rain can fall pretty hard...!!

Those who think that their military service somehow makes them into superior citizens, to be granted a free meal ticket for life, or to be given preferential treatment are living under an illusion. The sad problem is, that many are unable to make the adjustment and that is when they can become a danger to society.

The extremist parties are always looking to recruit, and they know how to get into the minds of the disillusioned. That is where the danger can lie, and that is what the wise security service will see and be aware of.

I didn't see this in April. So it isn't old news to me.
It really does not matter to me what administration it was accidentally published during
"An employee sent it out without authorization." (from the news report linked to by tino) the very fact it was written and published is WRONG IMO.

And they came out with one a few months before this one about left-wing extremists, with the difference that nobody noticed or cared.

World Net Daily must not be tino's cup of tea. Who Knew?
It is reliable enough to take anyone inclined to read the report to the report.
The very first sentence of the article I llinked to in my OP is a live link to the homeland security report.

So it was pulled, but never retracted nor replaced .
Just pulled from public view.

(bold and underlined text)
So is 6 members of my family over the the last 4 generations , 4 out of the 6 fought in wars, starting with WW1 my granddad and my dad and an uncle in WW2 and a nephew in Iraq. And not one of them was / have ever or are inclined to ever hook up with the enemy and try for a large body count in the USA. . so whats your point ? exactly ??

(underlined text)
It's exactly as you state.

I quoted the term "potential terrorist threat" from some place otherwise I wouldn't have used the quote marks, where did i see it , at the time I can't be sure ,
but it's not my words they came from someone else ,
but IMO
they aren't misleading .
