I'm curious about others' takes on the "We are a culture, not a costume" campaign. If you don't know what it is, here's the link to CNN's article explaining what it is: https://www.cnn.com/2011/10/26/living/halloween-ethnic-costumes/index.html

To me, I think it's pretty dumb. Sure the costumes can be racially insensitive, but it isn't as if the people wearing them actually believe that all black people are gang members and whatnot. They're just going for a humorous Halloween costume that parodies different cultural stereotypes.

Idk what the big deal is. If people in other countries wanted to dress like drunken Americans I really wouldn't care...

It depends. Some of them are fine but blacking up is never a great idea.

Ultimately people will be offended by anything though, but there has to be a line somewhere. I just think it's a very murky line.

I agree.

Seems like they are being oversensitive. If a Mexican student is offended by people wearing sombrero's and bright poncho I should get offended by folk wearing kilts and shouting 'Freedom'.

i like this.
as kids, we did cowboys and indians[first nations folks].
we never thought about how first nations folks might take it.
awareness of other cultures feeling can't hurt.

You're right.

People dress up in stereotypical Irish garb during halloween (but mainly on St patricks day) notice how they miss out that culture though in there campaigns, I wonder why?

People also dress up as "The Fonz"/Greasers at Halloween, so where the Italian-Americans getting offended?

Well costumes depicting Cowboys, Knights, Green top hats, berets and stripy jumpers, kilts and bagpipes, etc must be racially sensative to white people using their logic

Considering I have two friends going out on Wednesday dressed as Jimmy Saville I don't think someone sticking on a sombrero is that offensive.
