Whether I am doing the right thing here

Scenario
Got a mortgage on the house
Brother wants to rent out two rooms to pay off the mortgage, I thin that it will not pay off the mortgage thinking of the other bills that might be sky high, electricity and gas, and obviously water being a fixed rate, or maybe in the future, metered to try reduce the amount

Me: Want I wanted to do is sell off the house, me and brother buy a new house, and rent the whole house off. Now brother doesn't want to share this house, because of certain strange reasons, like we don't get along with each other

The only problem is, my brother is stuck with my mum, and I wouldn't have a place to live, unless, I dwindled the coffers of the sale of the current house (albeit split)

What would you do?

I would say rent, of course i know bugger-all about it but i just think with house prices being what they are selling should be reserved until they pick up again

Yes! What with negative equity your has has lost its primary purpose! Maybe you'll just have to... live in it?

well its your call things can go one of two ways;

1) interest will shoot up causing property to slump again and repossession rates to increase - if so selling now is a good idea

2) interest will stabilise and the property prices will slowly rise - in which case hanging out for a better price is the best option.

The tories beleive the first scenario is most likely, Labour swears by the second.

Who to beleive?

I would protect my own financial investment first and fore-most.

Family never strike as good a bargain with you as the buying market does. Cruel - but true.

When there is no negative equity, I think its ok to buy and sell. Your property may have gone down in value but so will what you want to buy by a similar ratio. If you wait to get a better price, then anything you want to buy will be getting a better price too.

If you sold and split the readies with your brother, would you have enough to buy or put a large deposit on something on your own.
