Sure, i think pot should be treated the same way tobacco and alcohol is.

Of course a reasonable idea to test the effects of legal marijuana would be to run a test.
Luckily other countries that have legalised cannabis can be this test.

The Netherlands does not seem to suffer from negative social consequences at all.
Nor increased suicide or mental illness.

What more do you need?

Its very vague. Studies are very vague. Its impossible to say for sure which was the point of my post.

How can anyone know if they have underlying schizophrenia or depression in the first place if they have not suffered the symptoms or been diagnosed?

Troops was merely stating what we are told by our government.
As i said some people will say that this is what our government will say because its illegal.

I do know a few people f***ed up from drugs, but they havent only done cannabis so again... there is no evidence there.

It cannot be entirely written off that cannabis can cause mental problems nor that it doesnt.

Agreed. Most of the studies around effects of cannibis on mental health in the Cochrane Library are observational/retrospective studies on people who had underlying mental issues already. There have also been some studies done on its benefits for terminally ill cancer patients since they are the only group can can use it legally.

Unless a group of mentally A1 people who smoke dope and a swag of people with mental health problems who smoke dope all come forward enmasse and agree to be part of a trial - which is doubtful whilst it's illegal- I suspect we'll never really know the true answer.

The best we'll ever be able to do is to observe what happens later and draw some conclusions.

There doesn't seem to be a huge abuse of cannibis use in Amsterdam either based on the limited stuff I've read.

The link for a pretty cool retrospective study on cannibis use in Amsterdam is below. It seems that most cannibis users in Amsterdam were & are pretty responsible in their own use & out of all 546 people studied, all but one were able to control their use of it contentedly - or abandon it later altogether when hashish no longer 'fit' their lifestyle. The common side-effects section is very interesting to read.
