Does anybody out there posses that unique ability to get to know someone then have something awkward happen and become nodding acquaintances? Like a mutual understanding, an unspoken agreement in which you agree to
seize all communication and the relationship dwindles down to the basic acknowledgement of an occasional nod whenever you see them.

There's that certain person I seem to see EVERY time I go grocery shopping... we have come to 'nodding' terms, and the occasional friendly smile...
Living here on the Rez, it seems we have all grown tired of waving, and jsut give what we've grown to affectionately call "the Rez Nod." It's kind of amusing actually... if you were to actually wave at everyone you know here, it'd be like being in a parade, lol! Thus, the Rez nod.

I think we've all been there and done that, the one that get's the better of me is when a freindship or relationship degrades down to sneering at each other.Ok you gave it a go and it failed for some reason or another, but get on with it and forget it.
The nod that get's me more is,when your standing in a shop or somewhere else and realize someone is looking at you, there's not a word spoken between you except THE NOD it's a silent acceptance thing .

Or even more weird, to cease talking, or even nodding all together, and for no apparent reason. - OR, say hello only when they FEEL like it!
Seems to go on alot in my parts, and has become more or less the norm, sadly.
I won't accept it, and refuse to be a part of people like that.

Yeah I do that with some people, it's easier than actually having to talk to them.

Sometimes people just can't be friends. It is not the fault of either party but like relationships, friend relationships end as well. I have been there. I have no hard feelings when no one is at fault and people just grow apart. So thus I'll do the nod.

i wouldn't call that an ability.

i'd say thats more of a social deficiency.

It's not always awkward. Sometimes it's the better way top go, rather than being pushy about hanging with the other party and always having that underlying tension, that unspoken awkwardness between the two people. But it depends I guess on who the other party is and the previous relationship between you and them.
