We've all heard this clich?, but how true is it?

How often have you seen it happen? Despite always being the shoulder to cry no, always there to cheer anyone up, the "nice guy" is overlooked and doesn't seem to have any success when it comes to relationships.

Why does this happen? Is it due to the nice guy not being assertive enough? I've noticed that many people seem to characterize the typical nice guy as passive and shy, maybe even a bit socially awkward. Perhaps in the eyes of the other person, he makes a great best friend, but that's it.

In your experience, does the so called "nice guy" really finish last, and why do you think this is?

I agree with it fully. I think it is a shyness thing. Or at least in a personal expierince that is always why I never could get the girl except I was always friend with plenty of them. So that is what I would blame it on I think... and also the fact that you women love the a*****es of the male species for some reason.

Nice guys are the -break glass in case of emergency guy- It is only later that we realize they were the best choice from the beginning, sometimes too late.

Sensitive guys are all well and good, but no straight chick wants a pussy.

Confidence is important. Strength is important. Charm is important. Stability is important. Social skills are important.

That's why the "bad guys" have no problems getting girls - they exude strength, confidence, and charm. They may not *really* have all those qualities, but they *appear* to and that's why they can start relationships easily. It's also why they can't seem to maintain them.

The "nice guys" who can't get girls are the ones who generally bring nothing to the table. They're good friends, but they don't make girls feel safe, they don't make them laugh, they don't provide for them.

*waves*

I was brought up with certain beliefs. One of those is that I should always be the perfect gentleman. I open doors for women, I am a shoulder to cry on and a friend when needed yet I am single and always seem to fall for girls who think of me as a brother.

I think it comes down to something as simple our primal instincts. I think girls are attracted to men who can look after them. Men who, if we were still in caves, would be able to hunt well and provide food.

My best friend is a nice guy and he always gets shat on by women.

But I think it has more to do with his choice in women then him. He always goes for the crazy girls he thinks he can fix.

Me personally I like the nice guys but I don't like pushovers. They have to be able to stand their ground and not do everything I ask. Because I will take advantage and then get bored of them.

I've been out with the a*****e and I don't think its worth it. They are not worth the trouble.

As baddass as I am I love the nice guys.

I've always wondered that myself actually

Are a*****es more exciting or something? More "dangerous"?

Some people always seem to cling to those who hurt them

I totally agree.. but there is also nice girls finish last too. For example, I'm not lucky in the dating world, but I have tons of guy friends. I listen to them and help them through their problems.

I'm a great friend to guys, but once I try to show interest in them, they just write me off as a friend. I have to also say that I'm not a very assertive person and I'm shy, so maybe that's it?

I prefer the "nice guy"
I like a manly man, polite, and I like if they are a little shy

I don't see how they could turn down the beard

And yeah I suppose it could go either way. "Nice girl" I mean. Anyone who isn't assertive enough.
