On January 20, 2006, I signed up for a social networking website called MySpace. A then-20-year-old loner who lived a sheltered, suburban life was immediately addicted to the site. I subsequently became a blogger, using this to emote whatever I thought or happened. Whether it was the good, the bad, or the ugly.
At the time, MySpace was the #1 social networking website. Popular to teens as well as adult.
That was then...
Now, 5 years later...
Concurrently, at MySpace's peak, another website -- Facebook, created by an Ivy League student -- came almost out of nowhere, becoming the main competitor. MySpace kept its lead until 2008, when a rapidly growing and changing Facebook overtook it in Alexa rankings.
MySpace tried to measure up to Facebook, adding new features. Even stylizing the name. However, the ranks went even lower. Do not get me wrong. It's still popular, but it's can no longer be a match to Facebook, as turned into an international, cultural icon.
As for me, I will admit I was swept away by Facebook and I rarely go on MySpace. However, I keep up, once and awhile. And for changes, I'm not that shy 20-year-old I once was. Also, MySpace was the first time, I became interested in writing. Though, MySpace's fame was short-living, how it may have helped me to vent was long living.
