Apparently, as I found out this morning.

I also can't contact my phone company because the account isn't under my name and I don't know the necessary information for getting through to talking with someone

If it's Verizon they have that problem from time to time. It happens to my bro a lot. It corrects itself in a day but it still sucks.

Have you tried removing the battery and sim card, I have found when my old phones did this removing the two items and putting them back in sorted the phone out.

Yeah I removed the battery. My phone doesn't have a SIM card I don't think.

If it's verizon, verizon phones don't have sim cards.

When cell phones came out, most of them didn't have sim cards.

OK so I called and I guess that bill wasn't paid. I discovered I also cannot make phone calls although I can receive them.

However, paying the bill is not my responsibility so I guess I'm going to have to wait a bit longer lol
