My husband was made redundant in March. He's a software engineer. Since then he's been having trouble finding a job in IT especially with all this economic crisis going on. We have a 2 yr old son and i'm working on part-time, so we are financially struggling at the moment. Not just that, but the fact that he's not working is getting him down. Can anyone give me some advice?

he could go on the dole... i know it sounds "chavvy" but at least its a bit of money, even if its only ?50 a week he'll get from it its 50 more than he is now. not only that but the job centre will help him to look for a job too. and they wont give up until they get him one! good luck

might have to find a different kind of job for now? or live with parents or friends to help save money.

A software engineer deals with computer software...IT.

No he's not tried anything else except call centre work, but that was to do with broadband and IT stuff.

Unfortuantely we can't live with my parents as they live abt 100 miles away, plus he doesn't get on with them.

Well then he should get out there and get any job he can. sometimes one has to suck it up and do that specially if there's a family to support.
Doesn't mean he has to quit looking for a better job.

I know. He is trying now for any job but still no luck. I think also the main problem is that he only has experience in IT and nothing else.

Has he tried job boards???

Reed.co.uk - monster.co.uk - careersandjobsuk.com to name but a few? There are a few contracts and perm roles out there?

My friend is a software developer and just got a job thru Jamma IT and another one got a job thru an agency called amtech???

Yes agreed...any job is better than no job and he can continue to look for a better job while working at a lesser one.

Good luck to you both, but it's happening here too. The only thing I can think to suggest is trying to find some odd jobs and budget like mad for awhile.

It's hard every where. I've been trying to find a job for months...sent my resume out to a million different places, registered with job services, looked online, and in the worthless papers here. NADA...it really sucks. Everybody keeps telling me to go to mcdonalds...do whatever I have to do til something better comes along and if i dont find something soon i just might have to do that. It's better than no money at all.
