Toward midnight. Father takes two children 4 &2 on a camping trip. Mother stays home. Father returns and no mother. Reports mother missing several days later, police cannot get any info from father. Do not consider him suspect. You are the detective assigned to the case. what is your next steps?

There's very little information to go on. But I would definately keep an eye on the father anyway. We'd need to get exemplar DNA samples from the mother to compare against any bodies which may match her description but also to test any biologicals found against. We have some possible crime scenes here. The house for one should definately be treated as a crime scene, the father's car, if the mother has a car and it can be found then the car should be examined also. Other than that, put out a missing persons appealing for any information on the woman. Not really much else to go on here.

It stinks. He took kids that young out in freezing conditions? Something smells bad here and it's not the garbage waiting to get taken out. My move is still pretty much the same. Talk to the 4 year old obviously but I guess he wouldn't know what was really going on.

Keep an eye on the father, interview neighbours, friends, anyone who may have seen something on the night she went missing. Search the house, the husband's van, maybe even take a look at the camping gear. Also check the husband's accounts if possible. It's possible he took the kids out to alibi himself and keep the kids out the way
