Mixed race.... Black or White????

what would you class someone who's mixed race as if you had to put them into a bracket???

No-one is saying 'Barack Obama is the first mixed race candidate...' they are all saying black, or this odd 'African American' thing.

My SO is half mexican and he never mentions that he's white - it's just mexican. I think he does that because it's obvious he has color and that is what people notice.

It's a scientific fact that if you have even one drop of black blood in you, then you are black, even if it doesn't show.

I have a friend who has a white mother and black father she calls her caramel. She just says chocolate and vanilla make the perfect caramel.

anyway, people don't have access to your genetic history when they meet you, if your skin is white they'll assume you're white, if it isn't then assume you arn't.
since 'black' covers a huge range of ethnic backgrounds and physically quite an array of shades of skin colour, nobody will be able to tell if you're mixed race.
therefore on first impression they will be 'black'.

whats more important than such a definition is what you think and assume when you hear or think 'black', not if you assume people are black.
