I was thinking earlier about the pros/cons of a military government, but not like the traditional idea of a military government.
You'd have the executive and legislative branches require each member to serve or have served in the military and if war was declared, those not retired from the military must serve along side their enlisted citizens.
That way the retired members wouldn't be leaving the nation in complete anarchy.

And in order to be "retired" you would have had to have served a certain # of years, be over a certain age or injured.

I have some pros/cons in my head, but I feel like if this were a reality, war wouldn't be declared as much and wouldn't last nearly as long.

I'm not suggesting this is a concept the US or any other country should adopt. Just thinking about stuff.

I don't think I'd like that if it happened here. I like that the government is somewhat distinct from the military.

Always did think a requirement to hold office should be military service.

I don't know for sure, as I've never been in the armed forces, but I get the impression that people in the military are instilled with a specific way of thinking, and I'm not sure how that would work with national services.

E.g. an army colonel deciding what infrastructure is ideal for the Health service would seem a little odd. I can't help but think that he/she would have a specific idea of what should be done.

What I think works is having various professions and people of specific expertises advising the government from the upper house or directly employed by the lower house.
