https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Mike-Ditka-would-8216-spit-on-8217-author-of?urn=nfl-wp8340 Thought this was interesting! Being the biggest Bears fan EVER......of course I loved Payton......watched him all through the 85' games, and seen him in person at the Super Bowl in New Orleans that same year. What an AWESOME player he was!

I'd rank Barry Sanders and Jim Brown higher, but Walter is definitely among the greatest running backs ever to play the game.

when the entire defence knows who is getting the ball, and that player gets yards.

THEY ARE GREAT.

This guy was writing a biography, not a hero piece. You have to include the unsavory details. By all accounts the book is a pretty fair account.

The one thing Ditka didn't say is that the information included is wrong.

He had problems and flaws. He was abused by the game of football to the point where he felt he couldn't live without painkillers, and his thought processes were clearly affected by the pain and the drugs he used to dull it.

I think Mike is saying why write it now write it when he was alive so that Peyton can say why these things happened if they did.The dead don't talk.

in fairness.
pain effects folks.
pain killers let you keep going.
just as a good person is taught to push themself.
Walter ran up and down hills to work out.
never seen a guy who can jump over a defensive line like he did
