Everyone seems to have an opinion on Michael Moore.

His documentaries have won awards and his books have sold in the millions. Many people believe Moore is truly brave in his quest for truth. Others believe he falsifies stats and situations to suit his cause and message. He is the topic of many internet sites devoted exclusively to disproving his theories.

What do you think of Moore?

I like him.
I think he's goes balls deep into contraversial issues, and provides an interesting prospective when doing so.

I think he is an irresponsible man who takes advantage of the element of surprise and militant interview tactics to make the people being interviewed appear incompetent. There is no merit to his movies and awards are not the litmus test in determining truth. If you want evidence of that, Al Gore was presented many awards for "An Inconvenient Truth", which is inconveniently untrue.

You don't think that his documentaries encourage debate and much needed focus on important issues?

I would disagree that his documentaries have no merit. "Bowling For Columbine" specifically, directly resulted in ammunition for handguns and automatic rifles being permanently removed from sale from all Kmarts in Nth America. That's an act deserving merit in my eyes.

You're right about the awards of course - but what makes you so certain his documentaries are falsities? I would need several lifetimes I think, to check the validity of Moore's claims on many issues - but there are many internet sites devoted to doing just that 24/7. I feel Moore would ensure he had his facts straight for this reason alone.

I appreciate your POV.

I don't think Moore is very credible in the finding of truth. I just like that he's a troublemaker.

Moore is a sensationalist that thrives of the spotlight and has made a career out of exploiting tragedy. Removing ammunition from K-Mart has done nothing to thwart criminals, but it has limited the options law abiding citizens have for cheap ammunition for sport or recreation. There is absolutely nothing noble about this man. I can't believe that people are so supportive of this coward and fear-mongering bleeding heart. He is a very clear image of the degradation of American society.

It's not possible it might amount to less violence?

I'm by no means a fan, but I don't think he's Satan. He's somewhere inbetween Satan and Savior (like everyone else). Somewhere around McCarthy, I think. Or maybe on the same level as Olbermann/O'Reilly. Although, depending on how you look at it, that could STILL be McCarthy's level.

I think he's a left-wing jackass, and probably the only other person on Earth who I have less faith in is Bill O'Reilly.

A small sample of opinions so far - and yet, it seems the people who don't find him credible are Americans.

Interesting

I honestly don't feel like listening to some liberal yenta b****ing about our country, if you feel that our country is so terrible why doesn't Michael Moore just move to Cuba since he says their healthcare system is so great and since Castro is appearently his BFF.

Michael Moore's socialist non-sense belongs in Europe not America, hell you Australians can have him if you want.

Michael Moore has actually criticised Australia just as vehemently as he has the US. He has had plenty to say about our PM and the fact that we sent troops to Iraq. Australia has not escaped his wrath that's for sure.

My post was not designed to criticse the US - it was a thread on Moore. I am planning a holday to the US for next year as we speak.

And what's a yenta?

Okay. i was just making sure. So it was directed at me then

I don't really know how to respond to your post. Are you saying I'm not entitled to a POV about a well known person who makes documentaries known world-wide?
