Reading that story, this quote gets me:

" Currently, federally licensed gun dealers are required to report to ATF whenever an individual buys two or more handguns within a five day period. But in what some federal law enforcement officials say is a gaping loophole in federal gun laws, no such requirement applies to semiautomatic assault rifles, which have increasingly become the ?weapon of choice? for Mexican gun traffickers. "

So it's easier to quietly get Semiautomatic ASSAULT rifles then handguns. What the hell? Here, you can have a F-16, but we're gonna have to check your credentials to sell you that Cessna. Government FAIL!

If Obama and his mob of misfits get their way, we won't get to own anything that goes "BANG".

I always wonder why the gun shop owner does not report the gun sale to the police department with the data (required by law) on the new owner.

Assuming the posters are inferring that the majority of the illegal gun traffic to Mexico is from the United States and that Mexican criminals are routinely using high power and sophisticated weapons brought in, somehow, from the U.S. to Mexico, it is probably not happening. The associated analytical report linked here by StratFor (Strategic Forecast) outlines a study that indicates only a small percentage of weapons used by the Mexican drug cartels and other violent Mexican criminals are US sourced. https://www.stratfor.com/weekly/20110209-mexicos-gun-supply-and-90-percent-myth?utm_source=SWeekly&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=110210&utm_content=readmore&elq=3037ec18effa4112952a990e87bbdd77

A faulty GAO report in 2009 set up this mythical sourcing of weapons as being the fault of US based businesses and citizens supplying such. Appears not to be the actual story as most of the sophisticated stuff is coming from the stolen stockpiles within the Mexican Army and Mexican police forces with the remaining bulk from other Latin American countries. As is usual, the US just makes the most convenient target.
