So I work at McDonald's now(bring on the high school drop out jokes) but hey, money is money no matter where it comes from. And it's not like a laid back simple job...it can get pretty hectic and there are a lot of things to remember.
Anyway, I worked 24 hours the first week(training days), 37 hours the next week...and then this week...13 hours. Next week? 3 hours. wtf? Is this code for, "you're gonna get fired"? I don't know why they would fire me...I've been doing what I'm supposed to do and am never any sort of behavior problem...maybe it's just because I'm new? But come on now, to go from 24 to 37 to 13 to 3...that's just ridiculous.

Any ideas what the deal is???

Has your cigarette theft come to include from your co-workers? Could have something to do with it.

The deal is you're a casual, and they can give you as many, or as few hours as they like. It sucks, but thats how it is.
(Well, that how it is here anyway)

I wanna know why though...if I'm doing something wrong(which...I realllly can't put my finger on what it could be), a good manager should step up and tell me.

Ask your manager.

Typically the first few weeks of a part time job you are given more hours for training and to make sure everything sinks in. The thing about restaurants like McDonald's is they are very busy around lunch and dinner but far less busy during the rest of the day.

This means as a new employee you will likely get stuck with short shifts during the busy hours. People that have been there longer will probably get the longer shifts during non peak hours.

The thing about jobs like this is there tends to be a lot of call offs or people looking for someone to pick up there hours. You might only be scheduled for a few hours, but you might might be able to get more if the manager calls and asks you to come in because someone was sick or if a coworker asks you to work for them because they have other plans.

Ask your manager.

This is the answer. Ask your manager before or after your shift, not during.

"Hey boss, why did I get so few hours next week? I really need the work."

He'll then tell you why, and maybe tell you he'll try to give you some more in the future.

Say "Oh, OK. Thanks!" and then be on your way.

Minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. That's where most entry-level fast food employees start.

I think that maybe because you're new, they might just be testing your "loyalty" if that makes sense?
