Well that's the question.

If you had to chose one, which one would it be...a Mac or a PC?

I would pick a Mac, because even though I'm into programming and things like that which PC's are generally good for, I am more into media like digital design.

Depends on what you're into. For a computer I used to accomplish tasks, I'd generally choose a Mac.

Mac (the new ones that come with 8 cores of the Core Quadro Extreme (2 cores per CPU, hence 8). You get a java co-processor and a virtualisation co-processor amongst others. Hence, you can easily virtualise a session of W32 or x64 apps natively (not talking about emulation but native running) along with your Leopard.
Go for the Mac.

If you can't wait for the new release of Macs, then go for a Core 2 Extreme PC (if you want something really really fast) but you can also choose an older model just to suit your needs.

Well, if you're a gamer, that matters.

Oh, btw, I wanted to ask you Jon, what do you think about the new macs being able to run
windows too?

Do you think there's even a point to it and do you know if it affects the computer in any way?

I respect your opinion on most technology, so I'm kinda curious.

omg. of course, there's a point. because Mac is positioning itself more on the software side. You've unix variation (Mac OS which has BSD code injected), Linux and Windows fighting on more or less the same platform. This is awesome for a developer like me- because there's no more power pc architecture to care about. And with virtualisation, things get a lot easier for us! Woohoo!

I think it's awesome. If I could afford it, having a powerful Mac and dual booting into Windows for games and Windows-specific apps would rock out loud.

It doesn't affect the computer, no.

What about the OS?

I've heard horror stories about Vista and how nothing works as it should. I haven't tried it yet as the PCs at work use XP and I'm using a Mac at home.

Vista sucks as an OS at the moment. There won't be a convincing argument to move to Vista for a year. Driver and software support is abysmal.

I don't really see the point in them bringing out new operating systems at the moment when they aren't adding new systems to the computer all the improvements of vista could have been given to xp with patches...

Not really, no.

The entire kernel structure is totally different. Many of the changes aren't obvious to the end user, but virtually everything from the TCP/IP stack to the kernel security model to the driver model in the base operating system has changed dramatically

From my experience using Mac's I'd have to say they're better.

I've never had one, used windows all my life...

And what's more is I never play games on PC anymore, and I mostly use my computer for media editing stuff, like web design, photo shopping, sound editing and video editing...and from what I've seen the Mac's are a LOT better than windows for that...just iMovie is reason enough for me to buy a mac.
