MP3-Players-are they really necessary?

Okay guys..
What are your views on MP3-players? Great idea? Really handy? Pure Genius? Or pointless? Waste of Money? Just another consumer trend?
And do they really need to play videos and display pictures?
Should headphones as standard have no spillage?
Any views welcome..

I love my iPod. I don't go anywhere without it usually. Whenever I need to get into my own little world I put in the earphones and it makes me feel so much better.

The only videos I really have on mine are comedy acts and other humorous stuff.

I have about 30 or so pictures. If I go somewhere special I'll take a few pictures and put them on my iPod so I can show other people if they want to see them.

Yeah, I love that idea of it, I wish I had one. But I do love my walkman and it plays MP3 CDs. Just I can't fit it in my pocket.

Good thing is, it's so popular now so many stores sell stuff for much lower prices that are compatible either way
