Hi all
I read that Lonely Planet has placed London as one of the top 10 best value places to travel to.
Can this be true?
I know the pound isn't as high as it used to be but surely there are plenty other cities which give a better value? For me to classify a place as ?best value? it must have 1. The sea and 2. Cheap cocktails. Two things London does not have. But that is just me. Do you think that the Lonely Planet top 10 list will increase London?s allure? And will this then boost tourism jobs in London ?
It will be interesting to know if travel guides have an effect on the human psyche.

Wow that is odd idn't it?]

Maybe its in the cities to visit rather than general places or something? As like you I would prefer sun/sea/cocktails lol! And why the hell not its much better!

It would be interesting to see if this report does bring more people in to London as no doubt if it does it will create job opportunities! But like with everything else right now - Im sure there will not be an influx of tourists due to the credit crunch!

I agree. Luckily with the olympics a year or so away, maybe more people are concidering making a holiday where they would normally stay home ...

I've only been to London a handful of times but every single time something s*** has happened to make me hate it. Tbh London would be my last choice of place to visit in the UK.

See Im the opposite I love London and always have such a good time when I go up there and also loved it when I lived there?

Maybe it depends where you go and what you do? Or what type of person you are? My other half doesn't like London much either!

Weird isn't it?

It's not so much the kind of person I am, it's the kind of people (some) Londoners are, most wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire and last time I was there I said a cheerful "morning" to a bus driver and he looked at me as though I'd asked him to eat a dog turd. Not the politest city I've ever been to.

That aspect of it I get! Where I live everyone is usua;;y quite cheeful etc so to go there and experience that is awful!

I think becaise I went to uni there I grew into it then carried on living there for 5 years before I moved back out towards the countryside ish lol!

I love it because of the atmosphere and buzz, places to go, eat etc etc...

I hear you SparklyKatie! Some people can be weird. I have this thing where I don't like to go into designer shops in London. The staff always stop what they are doing and stare at every item I touch and give me fake smiles. And usually my eyes shoot out of their pockets when I see the prices. But still, just because I'm wearing a comfortable (cheap no-name) outfit that I can't have heaps of money to spend on a paper thin cardigen? Lol.

I get you with this one! Retail Jobs in designer shops are definately something you need a certain character for! I mean I have been in some where they are just awful and then you get the odd one where they are lovely!

They are lovely the moment you start spending heaps of cash. But that is only my experience, I might add...
