If there is a hung party (where neither British political party has a large enough majority) then either party can "flirt" with the Lib Dems and form a coalition to oust the other party. This would make the Lib dems the most powerful political entity in the UK. I think this is quite a scary prospect knowing some of there policies.

The Lib Dems are already flirting with the big two. Nice mess we're in.

I honestly cannot wait to see if that happens. I like a lot of what the Lib Dems have to say, I think it'll be interesting to see what they would do if they are given a bit of power.

I'll try and find the link but I read somewhere that Nick Clegg has said he will definitely not be joining forces with the Tories and will try and enforce their own policies rather than pick a side.

No they wont be imo. The hostility between the three main parties will not suddenly go away due to a hung parliament. It's like Arend Lijphart?s view on the difference between the Westminster Model and the Scandinavian Model. They won't turn from being hostile towards each other to suddenly being consensual and concessional due to a hung parliament I don't think.

I think the best example of this is Canada at the moment, with neither the Liberals or the Conservatives having an over all majority, whilst smaller parties are pandered to to an extent there are more pieces of legislation completely ignored by the other parties in the parliament than those that go through due to the complete lack of cohesion and willingness to work together amongst the Canadian parties who are used to overall majorities.

It would put the Lib Dems in a certain position of power, but not enough for any decent concessions to be made, Lib Dem policies would certainly not be adopted by the Tories for example. Labour may be different, that could be interesting as they are less ideologically opposed in modern politics.

I think the most powerful Liberal in the country would be Vince Cable though, economically the Tories and Lib Dems have certain similarities which could be advantageous to Liberal minded people.

Utterly disastrous for socialists though.

Why is it scary? I'd be glad if they were elected.

If our Prime Minister can't decide whcih biscuit he prefers, he should die by Eccles-Cake-with-razor. Or perhaps we should go for 'Bugsy Malone'. Messy.

Surely Gordon would be at a disadvantage though, only having one working eye?

Poor sod.

Yeah, but not normally - limited vision is normal in politics.
