Labour has a new leader who says he represents a new generation.

He is younger than both the prime minister and the deputy PM and believes he can leave the baggage of the Blair/brown era behind.

----------------------------------------------

Thoughts? I for one am pleased, I voted for him. Think he will take Labour in the right direction.

He was alright, was my second choice but I really wanted his wife, Yvette Cooper, to run.

I'd like to see Ed Balls brought in as a right-hand man or something. He's just the bullish politician Labour need to go up against the coalition.

Yeah. Labour should be like that, but then it never seems to get elected, lol.

Still - anyone's better than Brown.

Dont like him, didnt like any of them. I liked Gordon Brown Everyone who ran for his place are back stabbing s***s who would step on thier grandmothers heads to stop drowning.

Im afraid until Labour get someone with a shred of decency im voting liberal.

Not a bad choice, though the closeness of the voting does show that Labour still aren't focused on what they actually want to achieve. I hope he manages to sort out the party and turn Labour into a strong opposition.

What annoys me is the media reaction to it, with incessantly calling him 'Red Ed'. I can't understand why being slightly to the left of New Labour is a bad thing for the leader of a democratic socialist party. That's sort of the point is it not?

I think the closeness of the vote was a good thing, it showed Labour had a choice of candidates and I for one think it's done the world of good. I think Labour will be a strong opposition and once again a united party now that the ghost of New Labour has been put to rest. A slight move to the left is definitely a good thing for the party whilst adopting a leader open to progressive politics (change in voting system, reform of house of lords etc) will help attract disillusioned Liberal Democrats.

According to the polls Lib Dem support has dropped to 10% in Scotland with Labour taking almost all of the fallout. It's quite incredible.

I never understand why people always criticise MP's for being 'corrupt' or 'lying scumbags' etc. Most politicians I've met have been really nice people who are in parliament because they want to make a difference.

I blame the right wing media.
