One of the guitar plays at the club last night was left handed but playing a right handed guitari upside down. He stated that he learned on a right handed guitair and he just likes playing it that way. Question: does playing that way distort the sound.

I play guitar left-handed, and have always had to "re-string" the right-handed guitars that I learned on. A left-handed player has to decipher chord shapes in books, which are always written for the right-h player, and view them in a left-h way. You do become used to this extra process quickly, though.
