An Edmonton man was acquitted Friday of charges for killing his cat with a chef's knife after claiming he acted in "self defence" when Lucky viciously attacked him.

Henderson noted Lechuk was the only witness to what happened between him and the cat in the kitchen of his northeast Edmonton home and he was the one who gave the bulk of the "critical evidence" regarding the stabbing.

And, while the judge called Lechuk "somewhat evasive" in his testimony under cross examination and found his description of the cat attack to be "unusual," he said the injuries to the cat were consistent with his evidence.

Henderson did find there was "substance" to the Crown's argument that Lechuk used excessive force instead of leaving the room, but said it is not up to a court to decide "how a person should react when attacked by a cat."

They must have a problem in Edmonton with house cats killing people.

I don't think reasonable force for an attacking cat includes stabbing it with a knife.

I think reasonable force would probably entail batting it away lightly.

This is bulls***. And why did the cat attack to begin with? That's what I want to know.
Alot of times when kids get bit by a dog it's because they provoked it and the dog is the one to suffer.

Maybe the cat was rabid, in which case it would have to be killed anyway.

If anyone harmed my cat, i'd make it so they spent the rest of their lives sucking their dinner though a straw.

My old cat died after being poisoned by the next door neighbour. We phoned the police but apparently they couldn't prove it, despite the fact that the vet said he had ingested poison and the neighbour had threatened to poison her just a week before hand.

Anyway, next door Neighbour died soon after. Lets just say it was a coincidence

I knew a guy that lived in a trailor park. It was overrun with cats people left behind. At night he would put out a near empty can of tuna on his patio. When he saw a cat sneakin up on it, he would shoot 'em through the lungs with a air rifle. They would run about a block before their lungs filled with blood and they fell over dead. That way he didn't have to dispose of the flea ridden, mangy critters.

In all instances I try to be peaceful and gentle with everything, including bugs (with exception of flies) but an animal goes ape and starts attacking me I'm going to go about all means to get it to stop attacking.

It's rare but cats can go nuts and rabid.

I'm just glad that cats can't fly.
