Jessica Ennis Gives Best Possible Reply To "Fat" Criticism

An unnamed official at UK Athletics described Jessica Ennis, the golden girl of British athletics and a major contender for the Olympic Heptathlon gold medal in two months time, as being "Fat" ahead of last weekend's meeting in Gotzis, Austria where she took part in her last competitive meet before the London games.

Weighing in at 8 stone 13 pounds (that's 125 pounds in American-ese) I kinda reckon she looks pretty good to go.

Ennis laughed off the comments and said "It's not an issue", then promptly went out and won the event, beating the previous British record of points for the event into the bargain. I reckon that would have put the pompous, blazer wearing buffoon who has probably never set foot on a track in his life, in his place. It's certainly the best way to answer such comments. Way to go, Jess...!!

Competing in a strong field, Jess beat the Russian champion, Tatyana Chernova, the woman who took her world championship title last summer, by 83 points. Chernova is her main challenger for the gold medal in London. The result was a personal best by Ennis, beating her previous PB by 132 points. Ennis also beat Denise Lewis's previous British record by 75 points.

IDK what one she is in the pic but none of those women are "fat." In fact, they look to be in excellent shape and take care very well of themselves. I bet even in better shape than the a*****e who call her fat.

Personally I find the whole story a bit thin. Not meaty enough for all the coverage it has been getting. Though lets hope the unamed offical gets his just desserts.

I do not understand the fascination of people and weight. Someone is said to be too thin, they gain weight and now are called fat. Its so stupid. I can get if someone you know is overweight and you are worried about their health but to just critize someones weight is so silly.

What I think happened is that an offical may have said that she was not too fat, just might have too much weight. The offical could have meant muscle, been that does not have the same level of newsworthiness, like "Offical says she has too much muscle" so the papers put it that he said she was too fat and could fill lots of space with this!

well, I have big hair and I am sure it accounts for 10 lbs of my weight so that is my defense if that a** wants to call me fat.

I dont think that happened here. I just think it was mis-quoted.

We don't know as the offical has not been named. Probably just a made up story to drum up publicity/support for the home gal.
