NOT because Trump was such a great president but solely because Putin was scared to deal with an erratic man as US president. He couldn't trust Trump not to nuke Russia and that's the only reason he didn't invade on Trump's watch. Trump was too unstable for Putin.

During times of international crisis or a war it is not uncommon for the government to step in and limit sales of certain goods or require the production of others. Fuel tokens in WWII and food rationing are examples. Our flexible system allows us to survive and succeed in all political climates.

Rather than building new pipelines across pristine wilderness, weaning ourselves off of oil might be present a better course. I'm a fan of biofuel. E85, 15% gasoline and 85% alcohol is a viable option in the US. For the price of a stimulus check any car could be converted to run on E85. We now pay farmers not to grow corn that could be used to produce the alcohol. Oil companies in the US have the equipment, talent and capital to put this plan in motion.
