Ireland was one of several countries cited by the European Commission for allowing their airports to be used to refuel US aircraft suspected of being guilty of transporting prisioners for torture.

Appartently the US has a practice of moving suspects abroad to use illegal practices that they cannot carry out with the US.

Ireland were cited for not taking more strenuous efforts to ensure such flights did not contain prisioners.

The Irish Prime Minister tried to defend Ireland's approach to foreign flights and stories that some held prisioners by saying he has spoken to George Bush directly about these flights and that Ireland was given an assurance by Bush that no prisioners were on these flights.

That assurance by Bush was disregarded by the Commission as worthless.

It appears that the honesty of the US administration going right to the top has been brought into question.

I think that it's a grave inditment of the US Adminisration that their country is no longer trusted by a fairly important world power.

There is an airport just a short walk from here servicing tourism and such. It is also used by the military a little at day and a fair bit at night.

I'm curious what they use at night because the planes are much bigger and powerful than what they fly in at day. I can never see them land or take off but you can't miss them by ear.
