ActiveX programs are just like any other program on any other OS. Once you give them permission to do what they want, they can do what they want.

I don't know why you're expecting ActiveX programs you install to be so different from other programs.

becuase it isn't a perminent application. I haven't used Windows in a while, so tell me if I'm wrong, but web applications are supposed to stay on the web right?

And since ActiveX controls are web applications, I expect the host (ActiveX) to monitor the control because most viruses come from the web.

Basically, I want it to basically be like the guy who watches his plumber and asks questions when he sees something that seems to be ticking going in the pipe.

ActiveX programs are not web applications. They're very powerful browser extension programs that can do any number of things.

They are, indeed, installed on the system. They are permanent applications.

In this regard, you are not the guy who has hired the plumber and is questioning him. You are the guy who has given your cousin your car keys and left town.

Java applets run in a virtual machine, which itself has wide powers. The VMs usually place good restrictions though, but not always.

OpenOffice amd uTorrent ate Java apps too yanno.
