This report estimates the annual costs of illegal immigration at the federal, state and local level to be about $113 billion; nearly $29 billion at the federal level and $84.2 billion at the state and local level. The study also estimates tax collections from illegal alien workers, both those in the above-ground economy and those in the underground economy. Those receipts do not come close to the level of expenditures and, in any case, are misleading as an offset because over time unemployed and underemployed U.S. workers would replace illegal alien workers.

Key Findings

* Illegal immigration costs U.S. taxpayers about $113 billion a year at the federal, state and local level. The bulk of the costs ? some $84.2 billion ? are absorbed by state and local governments.
* The annual outlay that illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers is an average amount per native-headed household of $1,117. The fiscal impact per household varies considerably because the greatest share of the burden falls on state and local taxpayers whose burden depends on the size of the illegal alien population in that locality
* Education for the children of illegal aliens constitutes the single largest cost to taxpayers, at an annual price tag of nearly $52 billion. Nearly all of those costs are absorbed by state and local governments.
* At the federal level, about one-third of outlays are matched by tax collections from illegal aliens. At the state and local level, an average of less than 5 percent of the public costs associated with illegal immigration is recouped through taxes collected from illegal aliens.
* Most illegal aliens do not pay income taxes. Among those who do, much of the revenues collected are refunded to the illegal aliens when they file tax returns. Many are also claiming tax credits resulting in payments from the U.S. Treasury.

This country has reached it's illegal alien invader saturation point.
Liberal politicians are beginning to feel the heat and understand that taxpayers are long since tired of footing the bill for a broken immigration system that is hemorrhaging their money.

The one curious statement in all of the above... If the illegal files for an Income Tax Return, he or she has either obtained a valid SSN under false pretenses, or has obtained another's SSN, and is using it in a fraudulent manner. Our ever-so-powerful IRS does not seem to be able to know if either situation is occurring. Why is that? Could it possibly be, that they just don't give a damn?

The IRS itself issues "TAXPAYER ID NUMBERS" for people without social security cards, of course, who would need one but an illegal?

So in effect yes, the US government is handling illegal immigration with a wink and a nod.

So immigrants are just exploiting a niche? It's not their fault is it?

I, too, was being just a tad facetious... So, we have one agency of the Federal Government masking or hiding the existance and mailing addresses of illegals (...in some cases...) from another agency of the Federal Government. There are some valid requirements for those Taxpayer ID Numbers, for people here on Work Visas, and such...

Actually, my husband, who is hear legally I might add, needed one last tax season. When people enter the US on a visa they are not immediately assigned a social security number, so if they need to fill out a tax form like we did, a tax payer ID number would be necessary. You would be surprised how many legal immigrants apply for these every year.

Those billions are what we American's pay out for the illegal immigrants that live here in America. There are also billions sent out of the country to the illegal immigrants home towns.
Quote:
Mexico City
Over the past decade, entire towns in Mexico have been rebuilt with money sent from immigrants or migrant workers living in the US.

Now, for the first time since Mexico's Central Bank began keeping records (13 years ago), total annual remittances from the US have fallen.

The numbers themselves, released by the Central Bank on Tuesday, are not dramatic. Mexicans sent $25 billion to their families in 2008, down from $26 billion the year before, representing a 3.6 percent decline.

But didn't your husband have to supply a valid visa # or some other such proof that he was here legally?

It was just so we could file our taxes jointly. You either need a SSN or a Tax ID to file. We needed a lot of evidence to show this is a real marriage and not just one to get him into the country. We were expecting to get interogated and everything but the government just sent us his green card in the mail. Turns out if your white and from a "friendly" country you sometimes just get sent the green card without going through the normal procedures. It's sad really.

That is sad. It wasn't the information I was looking for though.

Does his Tax ID work as a SSN in other cases? Or do you know?

I think if I have it down correctly, he'll get a SSN once he offically becomes a citizen. And since he's not a citizen YET he uses a TIN.
