IRC on a Mac?

need big help...I dl-ed a program called converstaion for my mac and its an IRC client however I'm a spazz and don't know any channels for music or comics which I suppose are the most important to me riht now. On top of that idk how to really use IRC (dl, etc.) So, if someone could help me or link me I'd love you forever. help.
