I came across this quote, and I thought it had a good point.

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the rich out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply the wealth by dividing it."
-Adrian Rogers

Complete rubbish. He seems to be subscribing to the old conservative adage that the best way to make wealth for all people is to allow some people to get rich so the wealth will 'trickle down' to the poor in society. It doesn't work like that. The only way people can become rich is at the expense of others.

Well I think it can go both ways. We've legislated the rich into freedom at the expense of the poor. So my question is, why is it okay to do it for the benefit of the rich but not for the benefit of the poor?

"Trickle down economics" was a pejorative used by the media against Reagan when he got the tax cut passed. They did the very same thing to JFK for the exact same reason. "Tax cuts for the wealthy". And the tax cuts were economy savers in both instances, particularly Reagan's after Jimmy Carter's economic sabotage.

National economics is NOT a zero sum game. As JFK said, "A rising tide lifts all boats". But that is contrary to socialist power mongering.

Apart from the fact you didn't address a single point I made what makes it contrary to socialist 'power mongering'?

Remember 1996 after Thatcher and Major? Look at the statistics of the rich/poor divide and how many suffered so that some could be free to make money. But that is OK as economically of course we were solvent...except we weren't, remember Black Wednesday?

You become rich by working hard and making a product that people want or providing a service that people want. By doing that, you shouldnt be forced to take care of the next guy that would rather drink and do drugs instead of work hard. If you earned the money, you deserve to keep it.

No you don't. There are plenty who work hard and don't become rich, there are plenty who suffer not because of their own endeavour but because of the situation they are in or simple bad luck.

Do you genuinely believe all those who are poor or who need help from the state are drunks or drug addicts? That's quite a judgement.

Particularly in the current economic situation there are plenty of people who work hard for a living, but could get laid off, perhaps have the wrong skills, can't get a job. And there are those who are rich, super rich, beyond how rich anyone need's to be. Often they haven't worked that hard themselves.

You sound like the typical middle class boy who pretends to be an advocate for the poor just in case your luck ever runs out and you end up poor yourself.

Here's the tip. You already are poor. Dirt poor. Poor. Naked. Blind. You are in a wretched state as it is.

The fact that you believe that all the falseness to which you aspire is anything only multiplies your poverty beyond any conceivable measure.

Revelation 3:14-22
[14] And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
[15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
[18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
[19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
[20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
[21] To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
[22] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

No, I dont believe everyone that is poor is a drug addict. Im probably in the poverty level due to my income...But thats because I dont want to work my a** off at another job that pays better...I make enough to get by for now and am happy with it, but I also dont leach off of tax dollars. Im sure I qualify for some foodstamps, but I dont go apply because I dont need it. Every single male that makes as much as me shouldnt need it, if they feel they do, they are mismanaging their money...and hard working people that make more than me shouldnt have to foot the bill. If I want something bad enough, then I will get a second job...I wont get on foodstamps and section 8 so I can use more money towards buying stupid bulls***.

True, not everyone that is rich worked for their money...Maybe their parents worked for it...Doesnt mean they should have to give it up when their parents die and they inherit it...Its rightfully thiers.

I can understand if a single mother made as much as me and needed to get on foodstamps or something...Because my income could not support me and a kid.

The great thing about my job is, anyone can do it. There are plenty of jobs that anyone can do out there...Not many people want to do them...but you cant always get what you want.

Every single person Ive known that have gotten on unemployment didnt even look for a job until like a month before it was going to run out...My friends or not, I still let them know I think its BS.

Always remember that if Jesus Chrrist nailed to a cross wasn't a good idea, then your nation wouldn't have a flag and thereore you wouldn't even be.

No babbling here, sorry about that.

I was just alluding to the fact that the flag under which you dwell would not be in existence if Jesus Christ's reurrection were not a good idea.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

PS, indecision is the product of the uncertain mind. Good luck with the signature.
