I really really don't. On the one hand, a change of government during a recession is never a good idea so it would seem Labour are the right choice. But on the other hand, we're stuck with whoever wins this election for the next 5 years. I do like Labour it's just that the last year or so has pretty much sucked. We need to overhaul the banking system and try to cut down banker's bonuses. We could probably also use a change in government for a bunch of other reasons I'm not going into. Since there's no way in Hell I'm ever voting Tory, that leaves me with my current favourites the Lib Dems. But if a change in government is a bad thing, should I just vote Labour or

That's a wasted vote then.
Wouldn't it be better to vote and actually have a say in what's going on in our Government?

Yeah I'd rather vote for someone and regret it later than be like the Germans and end up with Hitler in charge and getting supressed, pushed into war and then taking the stick for it for ever

It would be, but how come the vote of someone who is a genius(not me)lol be counted as equal to someone who is backward in intelligence.

Its not the people in government that's the problem but the way they are elected, total democracy is fair but people are not equal and some are more suited to make the descisions ie the most intelligent.

But then that wouldn't be fair either. People aren't equal, true. But who's to decide that one person's vote counts more than another's? eI think we should switch to a proportional representation method for electing our leaders. Like the additional member system in Scotland. The only real problem we've had with it is that some people are confused by it, something that should straighten itself out after a couple more elections.

They have proportional voting in scotland? never heard of it, interesting.

When its possible to acurately measure a person's intelligence then a test can be administered to everyone and then voting can be restricted to only those whose intelligence is above a certain average meaning that the most intelligent people in the sociaty are the ones who sway the vote rather than those of average intelligence as is currently the case.

I do slightly agree with where you're coming from, but then that would take the democratic right away from those who are of lesser intelligence. Plus just because someone is stupid doesn't mean they can't take in interest in politics. However I get the feeling there are certain parties that will benefit from the ignorance of some voters, which is slightly worrying.

Why should the those of lesser intelligence have equality of opinion as a genius? a genius can think far deeper than anyone else afterall it is they who are responsible for the progress of mankind not those of lesser intelligence (not that they are stupid or anything) it's about specialisation if you want to listen to music would you prefer to listen to a musicion or someone who cannot carry a tune?

Because we live in a democracy where everyone is allowed to have a say and opinion. Taking the vote away from those of lesser intelligence would stop it from being a democracy, which is what the UK is about.

Besides, one person's stupid is another person's genius, so even with testing it would be difficult to define who is smart and who isn't.

Call it a geniocracy then, selective democracy and not just england, the world

Soon it will be possible to determine what intelligence really is(not nessasarily academic, but wise) do you think wisdom rules?

Selective democracy wouldn't be democratic though. The whole point of it is that everyone has the freedom to vote. I'm not sure but I think this even extends to criminals in the UK.

I think often those who are not necessarily wise are the ones who have a very common sense approach, so they may be able to do some good for the country anyway.

I don't think it's a good idea to restrict people from voting, it undermines what it's all about.

I'd rather live in a society where there is no elitism when it comes to voting and everyone who is registered can voice their opinion. Although this does carry implications for some of the more volatile parties, it's still good for people to get the chance to participate in politics. Enough people aren't interested in the political world anyway, reducing who can vote would only turn more people off of politics.
