So I've been having problems with my Internet Explorer. I normally don't use it but some sites especially with Time warner cable , will not work unless you have Internet explorer. I was on facebook and when I clicked to close the Window a whole crap load began to pop out with Face book titles but with and https://about.blank.com title or something like that I kept trying to close but it just wouldn't respond. I have scanned for viruses using 2 different programs and nothing came up I have cleaned caches/registry blah blah.. and still nothing and it only happens with I.E....

I'm just wondering if any of you software savvy peeps knew what the FFF!! was up with I.E. or if anyone 3else had similar problems here and there and how to fix them?...

Yeah, weird how certain browsers work differently with different sites. I hope that problem clears up for you.

I don't know what the problem is, however, I have a solution.
First, STOP USING IE!! As you said, some sites required it, that is no problem. Use Firefox instead, and then install IE Tab, an extension that embeds IE into one tab. You can (for the moment) find it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
There will be a little fox in the bottom right corner. If a website tells you to use IE, first, use a random string of profanity!, then click that fox, and it will change to Evie, the Evil E (internet Explorer) You are now rendering with IE.

Next, XP's pop-up blocker sucks. I would suggest Pop-Up Stopper, but apparantly, panicware doesn't exist any more, so you are on your own. Just look for something like "Freeware Pop-up blocker" on Google or something.

Then, to take it a step further, some apps will launch IE regardless of your default, download Startfox 9.14, from my website, https://www.Startfox.webs.com and install it.

K?

For some IE only sites, you can safely navigate with lynx.

I recommend doing what Xilmwa suggested and use the IE tab. I even provided you a link to do so. ;]

link [addons.mozilla.org.]

Yes, Lynx is a txt only browser.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_web_browser

... and please, stop using Internet Explorer.

yeah I guess it must be something different.. I normally don't use IE but like I said before, some sites here only work with that. and the Tab for some reason isn't working either..
thanks for the help anyway.

Weird. You do use Windows, right? (dumb question)

Did you hit the fox in the bottom right, then re-navigate to the page?

I hit the fox but nothing happened.. I am running on Windows XP again. I couldn't get the hang of Vista.. and many of my programs were not compatible. I can switch to Linux but I still have a few kinks to work out on that end.

I would imagine. Hey, if you do, check out Wine, so you can install IE on Linux to get your websites to work.

And don't be scared if you're new at Linux. I kept switching back and forth for a year before I got comfortable with it.

I don't know why that didn't work. Do you know how to add a toolbar button?
