You know, when I hug my male friends I call it a voluntary b*** press.

I love hugging my friends. I do NOT like hugging my immediate family members. The reason for that is when I was very young, I hugged my mother face-to-face. It seemed normal to me, but she told me she felt uncomfortable with our bodies touching that way! So we've always "hugged" from the side. That's not a REAL hug, is it? I feel strange about it. Sometimes it's uncomfortable because we're all different heights and it's awkward to put my arms around them. My mother seems to hug me really quick and I feel a nudge. It's as if she's forcing me away. Jason, my son, and I hug face-to-face and we think nothing of it. My aunt and I do the same. A couple times, I directly hugged my dad. He's never said it bothers him but he usually does the side-to-side hugs. I just feel incomplete or something. These hugs don't feel warm. It's more like they are forced. Am I wrong to feel this way?

I have friends who are big on hugging. I am the shy one of the group so people approach me for hugs more than I do them. Its a nice gesture though like waving hello.

I never used to let anyone hug me nor I them.

But now it's become commonplace as a show of affection and it makes people feel good so why not?

I don't really hug that many people, I'm not that comfortable with it. I hug a few people that I've known for years but will never really initiate it.

It's nice to hug not because you feel that you should, but because you feel it's the right thing to do, sometimes all you need is a hug!
