There used to be a generic topic to discuss all things cricket but i'll be buggered if i can find it. So here is a place where people who are interested in cricket can discuss the great game

Will anyone be sad to see the end of the ICC Champions Trophy?

Wade and Hughes added to Australia A squad to prepare for the Ashes. God knows Hughes needs all the time in the middle he can get in English conditions, for all the talk about his new and improved technique he still very much struggles against the moving ball.

Aye, cant see i'm sad to see the ICC Champions Trophy go.

As for the Ashes...it's all looking pretty gloomy. It's not just technique that's missing when playing against a ball that's moving around it's the temperament...the steely desire to succeed. In days of old blokes like Border, Langer and Steve Waugh put a very high price on their wicket. Not this mob. It's the same thing over and over again, and as we lurch from one humiliation to another they keep saying the same things..."we need to be more patient", "we need better shot selection" etc etc etc but nothing ever changes.

What gives us hope is the Kiwi bowlers did trouble the Pommy batsmen in their 2 series. Our bowling attack is a lot better then NZ's. If Pattinson and Harris can stay fit for most of the series then it will be a massive boost for us because both should be suited to the conditions.

But yeah our batting is a real weakness. Players like Watson and Cowan just can't seem to go on and make the most of their starts and Cowan should be in the mold of batsmen you mentioned. Hopefully Rogers in place of Warner (I'm predicting) can add some stability to the top order.

I like the option of Bird (if fit) playing at Lords and using the slope like McGrath did so well. His bounce, and the natural variation combined with a consistent line and length offers us something a little different on such pitches. The big question mark over Harris of course is his fitness. If he is able to find form and Pattison fires then its a decent attack

Have plenty of options with our fast bowlers, they'll hold the key for us. We won't be batting England out of to many Tests.

Have to say I feel as CA have made Mickey Aurthur the scapegoat for our poor form and behavior. The selection panel have to be looked at, players like Warner, Watson, Cowan, Hughes have been inconsistent for a while now, long before Aurthur came in as coach for some and yet the selectors keep giving them chances.

For all the talk of the new and improved Hughes technique he still struggles against the exact same bowling he always has Warner is hit and miss, when his style comes of he looks unstoppable but lately those innings are few and far between while Cowan and Watson struggle to turn their starts into big scores. If it were up to me Hughes and Watson wouldn't even be in the touring squad let alone the XI.

Was Aurhur the reason for these players problems? maybe but they've been having the same issues for too long to simply put down to coaching, maybe they just aren't up to it, simple as that.

Either way Darren Lehmann should make a good replacement, his always had a good cricket brain. And the announcement that CA are getting rid of that stupid rotation policy is a great move. Hopefully these changes haven't come too late.

and yes, yet again our top order has failed. Clarke apparently copped a jaffa. No such excuse for the other 3. Exactly how much longer do we stick with Cowan?

Was nothing Clarke could do with what Anderson gave him, Watson before he got out chased a wide one early in the innings, was lucky not to knick. Time for Watson to stand up and be counted with the bar, 2 hundreds in his 42nd Test and he wants to open the batting? No where near good enough.

What a brilliant innings by Ashton Agar, him and Hughes digging Australia out of a massive whole. 98 on debut batting at 11, a record for a no.11, first time a no.11 has topped the score card for 117 years. The shots he played just looked like a genuine batsmen as well. Disappointed not to see him ton up but he has almost single handedly kept the Aussies in this match.

Just watched broad get a huge edge...the ball was deflected off haddin's gloves and clarke then caught it. Amazingly the umpire gave him not out. This for me just shows why the drs should NOT be in the hands of the players. The idea of the drs was to eleminate howlers. Well here was a howler and they werent allowed to use the drs. Its just a bloody joke.
