Help me with spy-ware! Please?

I have unwittingly got some spy-ware attached to my laptop.

Every few minutes a pop up comes up telling me I have gotten a "Win32.Brontok" virus. The pop up asks me to enable protection, and when I click the button it directs me to a website asking me to install a program called Perfect Defender 2009.

I did some research and found that this is a spyware program that asks me to download a bunk program. I looked up some spyware removal, but I am skeptical about downloading new programs.

I ran a proper virus scan and didn't find any viruses.

Does any one out there have any advice for me?

Go into your Program Files folder, look for a name of a program you never installed. Enter it, and delete everything. If it really is Spyware, there should be one file with a picture on it. Try to delete it. It'll give you some reason why it can't delete. If it does, and you're sure that that is a suspicious program, restart your PC in Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly when the logo of your PC's manufacturer displays. Get into Safe Mode, go to where the file is, and delete it. You should be able to delete it. Empty the trash, everything. Restart your PC in normal mode and see what happens.

Don't go deleted things you may think are spyware, that won't remove them properly, or you may end up deleting important files.

download a spyware removal software, like the one i suggested above, and remove spyware like that.
