I'm guessing there is a thread on this somewhere, but I can't find it. Seemed significant and It's just passed, so thoughts please.

https://money.cnn.com/2009/12/24/news/economy/senate_health_care_vote.cnnw/

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Senate passed a potentially historic $871 billion health care reform bill Thursday morning, handing President Barack Obama a Christmas victory on his top domestic priority.

The bill passed after months of heated partisan debate in a 60 to 39 party line vote. Every member of the Democratic caucus backed the measure; every Republican opposed it.

I wonder if I'll actually be able to afford this mandatory health insurance, or if I'll be forced to leave this country

Actually, I'm hoping for the latter...

Republican Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky -- a staunch opponent of the bill -- was the lone senator to miss Thursday's vote.

If he felt so strongly about it, I wonder why he decided not to vote on it? By not voting, he just made his opinion on the matter irelavent.

Maybe he was ill? Maybe one of his family members was ill and in the hospital? Maybe he was delayed in traffic?

I guess I'm going to jail...I can't afford health insurance...until I hear it from my congressman, I won't believe a word on how I am supposed to pay for my socialized health care!

I do hope the new health insurance bills will make health insurance more affordable, or else the object of them will have been rather defeated. Before you start worrying too much I would wait and see to what extent the government are going to subsidise you, as I don't think this was made clear in the CNN article.

I think that the new administration has the right idea about health. Living as I do in a country where all citizens are entitled to health care subsidised entirely by tax revenue, I find it appalling that the American government, in previous administrations, has not seemed to care about its poorest citizens in expecting them somehow to fund it themselves. Of course I have heard that there are charity hospitals in the U.S which provide free health care, but I have also heard that they are very overcrowded and so might not offer high quality care. Thus, why shouldn't the many wealthy citizens of America pay slightly higher taxes so that poorer people can get better healthcare? There seems no good reason why America should only be for the rich.

Americans must really be the only people who see universal health care as a bad thing.

Thankfully there will be no socialized health care, so you won't have to pay for any.

Eh... how could I explain, you see, there's a weird way here of handling things. If it doesn't help some make ridiculous amounts of money, it's just declared communist to scare everyone off about it. The really weird thing is, postal service and education is ran by the government... see some irony here?

I actually love it every time people try and claim Obama is communist.
