---It's not a lot, but hey it's something...(although my state minimum...Washington State...is 8.55)

I'm kind of confused, according to this list, some states are still able to pay below federal minimum wage

Also, sucks to work a minimum wage job in the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico! Minimum wage by state

The link did not work for me. I am curious to see minimum wage by state.

Where Federal and state law have different minimum wage rates, the higher standard applies.

so this brings everyone up to at least 7.25 employers must pay that, (the exception is still for waitstaff)

Oh, waitstaff...meaning workers that rely on tips

In Canada, wait staff make min wage and get to keep their tips. Most of them don't report the tips as income.

So wait staff at a busy place make a lot in tips and their total wage + tips can put a lot of blue collar workers to shame.

Employers of tipped employees (i.e., those who customarily and regularly receive more than $30 a month in tips) may consider such tips as part of their wages, but employers must pay a direct wage of at least $2.13 per hour if they claim a tip credit.

Yeah, though is usually think about waiters, but there can be more people included.

My friend works at a bar. She makes her 8$ min wage and a couple to few hundred in tips a week. She is very pretty and men, especially drunk, love to tip the pretty girls.

Damnit, it's soo true. I hate attractive bartenders, always come home with less money.

Sadly most places are just bumping up the min wage workers, there are cases out there of the supervisors of minmum wage workers making a whole $7.64 (NM min wage of 7.50, the state just raised it in Jan. some cities are higher.)

Well, I guess it depends on which end of the paycheck you are on whether or not it is sad.

I made $10/hr...I kinda felt good about it when the minimum was 5.50 or whatever...then it was raised to $6.something and I was like cool, Im still like $4 ahead of the min...Then I went up to about $10.25 and now its at 7.50....If it keeps up, Ill be making minimum wage At least I still get tips and gifts

I think in cases of those making just a bit more of min wage, they should get a pay increase as well. I think it is fair.

Its kind of scary for some small businesses. I mean chains like Wal-Mart are making a killing an can afford to pay. But if a small business is barely making it right now with the way the economy is going how will they get through? Its kind of a catch 22.
