wtf! you have to put butter on the outside to properly toast it, without it burning. and it taste sooo much better that way.

Outside if using a sandwich toaster, inside if it is being done under the grill.

we dont have grilled cheese, we have cheese on toast or you can make toasties. Toasties have the butter on the outside. Cheese on toast has no butter, you just put cheese on bread toasted one side and then put it under the grill.

See there are 2 things called a grill. There is the kind you Americans use, the heavy pan. And a grill which you put things under and there is a gas flame above it.

yeah we call them toasties, not grilled cheese. Although we called them brevilles for years.
