Lord of the Rings
Narnia
Magic Kingdom: For Sale, Sold
Anything by Terry Pratchett

They are all fantasy, but the second two are also quite funny.

I'm rather fond of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony.
Also, the Incarnations of Immortality, also by Piers Anthony.

Absolutely not Lord of the Rings unless you want to be put to sleep.

The Harry Potter series is really, really good if you haven't read it. Don't be put off by thinking they're kids books - the series is really good and really deep with some of the best storytelling and characters ever. The HP series is, IMO, the best fantasy series ever.

The Eragon series is good too. Older Michael Crichton (Sphere, Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park) is great. Then there are classics like Lord of the Flies, or modern classics like Kite Runner or The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Terry Pratchett books are great and really funny and witty. So is Douglas Adams. Terry Brooks also writes some great Lord of the Rings style fantasy epics without the tedious history and poetry.

Lord of the Rings, but read The Hobbit first..one of the best books ever!!

i agree about the Incarnations of Immortality, by Piers Anthony. I read those when I was 14 and loved them! Though I think there's more to the series now I need to read. but 'on a pale horse', book one is one of my fave books!

Artemis Fowl is also a good book. Didn't think too much of the sequels but the first one is great.

I think there's 7 in the Incarnations series.
I just looked up the Xanth series and there's 35 of them. I think I've read 9 of them...better get back on the horse!
Oh yeah, and if you like puns...these are the books for you.
