Right conduct (in the sense that a highly (or at least relatively highly)) valued action may be regarded as 'Good'.

A highly valued action is directed at attaining a goal.

How do I decide on my goal. Desire and appetite are a major influence.

An action of low (or at least relatively low) value may be regarded as 'Bad'.

My current plan/project/goal is to eat more healthier.
Expected & desired results: live longer, save dollars due to drastic decrease in 'bad'/fast/junk foods, feel better, look better, lose weight. In my case desire and 'appetite' are a big part of my goal. It's all about the portions, carbs, protein and fiber - definitely changes one's appetite. Sounds like a good goal to me. Three months in, and expect to lose more then my weight-loss goal by end of July.

I exceeded all of my career goals...and most of my life goals as well.

My present (and on going) goal is to travel around the world.

Things are working out quite well.

Get out of debt and bring in just enough income to live comfortably until I'm dead.

My doctor told me to eat a healthier diet or die. I sill have not decided which to choose. I am not sure that life without pizza is even worth living.

Live comfortably until you are dead seems like a reasonable goal.

Oddly I somehow thought that you were about 29 years old, thus the idea that your doctor was concerned about your diet was a bit shocking to me.

Then looking at your profile it looks like you are in your 70's. Again, I am a little ill at ease with your doctor. I mean really? Maybe you have clogged arteries and are knocking on the door of a massive heart attack, but what is your life expectancy anyway...in the USA it is about 78. Seems to me that you are approaching the end, statistically, and should enjoy life as much as you can/want.

Now, if you are in your 40's or 50's and have high cholesterol and clogged arteries and high blood pressure... well maybe you should eat better....

There are short term goals and there are long term goals.

Where I live there is plenty of air, food and water. If I was in a place where there was no air to breath (e.g., underwater) I would tend to place a high value on air. My volitional actions would be focused on the goal of getting some air.
If I was in a desert and had not had any water for some time I would place a high value on water; if I were on a life raft without any food I would place a high values on food; if I was in a naked and in a blizzard my goal might be clothing and shelter. These are examples of basic needs (short term goals).

I suppose sex drive might direct my volitional actions and addicts are driven to attain whatever they are addicted to.

Long term goals, as already mention, could include health and a comfortable life. I think I would add peace of mind and happiness to the list.

The next question is how do we attain our goals? (i.e., how do I live the best possible life)

I have more than one goal.

I assign values to my goals.

Goals come and go and change in degree of importance.

I am thinking happiness is my ultimate goal.

It has been proven is several independent studies that it is impossible to eat a cookie and be unhappy at the same time.

I see that this question has been asked and answered many times before.

Maybe I should have asked; 'what are your values'?

What do you value????

My current goal is to become a nurse.
I'm just over half way through a three year course.
Once i've completed this the plan is to specialise in palliative care.
