I was an okay, but committed, jogger for a few years, but earlier this year a lot of stuff happened that I ended up not running anymore. I'm getting back into after 10 months off and I was hoping someone could give me some advice on how to start again. My knees bother me when I try to get back into it, so I know I have to work on lifting weights with my legs too.

I'd appreciate any bit of advice, from foods to eat, exercises to rebuild muscles in my legs, to starting off on the run again. I wasn't completely stationary on my 10 months off, but now I can only run half a mile before needing to stop.

Thanks in advance!

I don't have any advice for you, but good luck on getting back into it. I'm just sitting here thinking, I need to get back into 'something' - I have been way too 'stationary'. Might end up joining the YMCA, they even have a 12 week program.

If you have bad knees, as well as the weights, run on grass to start off with, as it's more forgiving on the joints. And also wear good quality 'running' shoes (I'm assuming you already have some though)

Jason, is the treadmill as soft as grass? I have fairly new running shoes. They were brand new when I quit running in February. I can't believe I have bad knees at 28.

I'm 26, 63 is actually Jason Voorhees age, But yeah mine are terrible. Well a treadmill is still a lot more forgiving than concrete. They do have a fair bit of give in them.

Those shoes should be fine, I don't see why not.

So what did you do to get your knees all screwed up? I hurt one when I fell on rollerblades when I was 20 and hurt the other playing football with some cousins.

Hello, I was a former runner. I ran all throughout grade school and high school and by 17 I had bad knees. I still have bad knees, and they are bad because of running, they only ache when the weather changes. 8) Anyways, I really don't recommend running on a tread mill, they can be just as unforgiving as the pavement. I suggest that you take up a different activity with less impact on your knees, such as swimming, or what i do now, biking.
