So my parents don't and won't help me out with paying for college and I am in desperate need of some college help.

I still live with them and when i fill out for my financial aid they are going to see how much they make and that doesn't help out my cause at all. and these scholarships arent working for me.

does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Are they claiming you as a dependent on their taxes?

if you're not claimed and not making a lot of money you can qualify for food stamps. I had a friend do that in college once. Also, apply for student loans. you won't have to start paying those back until several months after graduation and the interesest is usually pretty low on those. And also get a job if you an juggle the time.

Then you shouldn't have to list their income on the FAFSA, right?

I don't think it matters. I think the age to not be considered a dependent is 24.

A girl I work with is 20, lives on her own and has for the past couple years, but she is still considered a dependent.

Well, then take a couple classes per semester and pay cash, or get a job with a company that offers tuition reimbursement.

That's weird. I wouldn't think that to be possible if you're legally an adult?

A lot of businesses do. I know BP Amoco does. Generally, the degree you're pursuing would have to be related to that business.

I think it's more or less to save the government grant money.
