Friends Requests - Rules?

When sending a 'friends' request you can never be sure it will be accepted. Things to be aware of:

As the sender you may be seen as a 'kiss ass'
As the sender you may be seen by the recipient as too 'needy'
As the sender you may be assumed to be a stalker
As the sender you may be assumed by the recipient to be a sock for someone else (not the member by that name, but genuinely someone else )


As the recipient of a 'friends' request, it is reasonable to:

Assume the sender has an ulterior motive
Assume the sender has never read any of your posts except the last one
Assume the sender thinks the sun shines out of your posterior tract and their opinion cannot therefore not be trusted as you're convinced everyone else thinks you're a d***

Have I left anything out?

You're a mod, people ask to be your pal not the other way around!

I don't see the reason for adding friends. I can PM people without adding all of their puppets to my list.

Usually 'Befriending' someone in a public forum is done so that the individual can be contacted outside of public view.

Valentine's day. Before that I think it had been a year or so since I sent one. Maybe longer. I just don't think of sending them doesn't mean I don't like the person though.

The 'friend' thingy is way overrated in my opinion. Some can have 100 so-called friends on their list and only PM one or two. Then the other may have only 2 or 3 friends on their list and be PMing the whole forum for all we know..

As a mod, do you feel obliged to accept?

Since being a mod have you ever refused a 'friends request'?

Obviously, I completely understand that you would have accepted my request regardless of your status as a mod, but I'm just looking for a way to make you feel uncomfortable!

I have rejected people. Mostly new people that have otherwise not spoken to me. But I did that before I was a mod too.

My friend list has grown exponentially this past year, all for the better too.

Well, we've always been friends. We just talk a lot more lately.

Is there an advantage to having friends? Is that question coincidentally a sub-group of sour grapes?

I only accept if I want to know the person is online. So I can either:
a) avoid
b) bother



If I want to block the person periodically then I don't accept their requests or I delete them.

Yah...you were on my list a couple years ago but we didn't really start getting to know each other for reals until recently. I remember messaging you a little bit when I sent you the request.

For the most part if someone is on my friends list it's because I either have had fun with them in the forums (read: partaken in rampant jackassery) or have found them interesting or witty. I do genuinely like everyone on my list, and to be honest I've never turned any requests down. I have deleted a couple though after time.

Please continue to avoid bothering me.
