I've had vegetables growing for a about 1 month and then a friend suggested I get some horse manure for the garden as it was looking a bit worse for wear.

So, I went up the road and found horse manure for $4 a bag. I brought it home and I spread it over my garden.

Then, I read on the web that putting fresh manure on vegetables can contaminate them with E.Coli which can pass into human bodies when eaten.

I did not turn the soil over I just left it on top, I was wondering if I can take it off now? It's winter here and the vegetables seem to love the fresh manure. It's rained a lot so the manure is probably well washed through..

I didn't think it would be a problem, the manure had been sitting in a bag for around 2 weeks prior to me buying it (I remember the bag I purchased was the bag that had been sitting there for a while).

Should I pull out all my winter veggies, compost the site and wait a couple of months to grow again??

Thanks
