We may share a language, but we certainly don't always understand
each other. Here's a smattering of British delicacies. Match
the name of the dish to its description:

1. bubble and squeak . . . . a. sausage in Yorkshire's pudding
2. digestive . . . . . . . . b. smoked herring
3. bangers and mash . . . . c. fried leftover potatotes and cabbage
4. fairy cake . . . . . . . d. a semisweet cookie
5. toad-in-the-hole . . . . e. a cupcake
6. kippers . . . . . . . . . f. sausage and mashed potatoes

If a first-time visitor to the UK was confronted with some of those names, they'd be a bit dubious about eating here.

I like toad in the hole, but if I had no idea what it was I'd worry about what was going to be put in front of me.

bubble and squeak puts me in the mind of bubbles (like
bubble blowing soap) and the noise the cleaning windows
makes - though why you'd use bubble making soap for cleaning windows I don't know - but it's not something
that I envision eating, for sure.

Exactly. I wonder how these names originated.

Next time I cook it I'll tell my lot that's what they're having for dinner. They'll be out of the house and down to McDonalds like lightning.

Bubble and squeak is named after the sound it makes when it's fried.

the rumbling, some people want 'chocolate', and plain
ole people take Gas-X or Pepto which is tooo easy for some.

I never thought of that. It does make those noises, doesn't it?
