The current Deepwater Horizon oil spill is, at the moment, probably not even in the top 10 (or even top 25) of the largest oil spills of all time.

The largest accidental oil spill ever was also an underwater blowout in the Gulf of Mexico. It went uncapped for 10 months. That oil spill released over 3 million barrels of oil directly into the gulf.

For comparison's sake, the overall volume of the Atlantic Ocean is 354,000,000 cubic km. The Ixtoc I spill was 0.00048 cubic km.

In other words, the Atlantic Ocean is 737,500,000,000 times larger than the largest oil spill ever.

Can the oil be refined into gas once it's been recovered?

Estimates seem to run between 50 and 100 thousand barrels per day.

Are you a vegetarian?

If not, congratulations, you're killing birds too, at least indirectly.

Sure I eat birds, but I don't drown them in oil.

At 150 thousand barrels per day, it would take 26 more days to become the largest oil spill ever.

Nah, we just ensure that they spend their entire lives in cages so small they can't move and they have constant sores due to being kept in wire cages with wire mesh floors. Their feet are covered in balls of s*** that have hardened so they can't even walk properly, even if they had the room to.

That's better.

I don't like how they call this and others "spills" to me a "spill" indicates something already extracted, in a set amount that mistakenly comes out of the container. Like dumping a cup of water. THIS to me seems like a LEAK! Where it is coming out with no end in near and from the source. Like leaving the sink running....
