I suppose it depends on what you're looking for in an actor/actress. Are they good in specific roles or can they play any part...? Do you like people with charisma or is acting ability more important..? Movie or stage...?
Sure, anything with big hitters like Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Al Pacino, Tom Hanks et al is going to be enjoyable (loved Meryl as Florence Foster Jenkins, an opera singer who.... er... couldn't sing).
I'm going to bang the drum for some of our British thesps... Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ian McKellan, Emma Watson, Tom Hardy, Anthony Hopkins, Tilda Swinton, Julie Christie, Emma Thompson, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Kathy Bates, Christopher Ecclestone, Vanessa Redgrave, Benedict Cumberbatch. I could go on. I've barely scratched the surface.
As screen partnerships go, a couple who really sparked, for me were Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in Macbeth (the 2015 version). Quality performers in a quality film where the whole was far greater than the sum of its parts.
So many, whose movies or stage parts I would go out of my way to see, and I know I would enjoy.
How can anybody choose a "favourite"?
