FBI raids Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's office, seizes Stormy Daniels documents, bank records...

Some notes for those not familiar with federal search warrants:

1. While the FBI executed this search warrant, the FBI does not get to just do search warrants, they must get approval first.

2. The search warrant had to gain the approval of the U.S. Department of Justice.

3. Trump's buddy Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III is in charge of the U.S. Department of Justice.

4. In this case the search warrant was specifically approved by the US Attorney's office for the Southern District of New York.

5. Geoffrey S. Berman is the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

6. Berman was personally interviewed by Trump and appointed by Sessions.

7. Considering the target of the search warrant as an attorney & more specifically an attorney who works for the the President, it is highly likely that DOJ Headquarters would have had to approve the search warrant.... as in Sessions would have known about this search warrant in advance.

8. Trump isn't happy.

Beauregard????

What mother who loved her baby would name him Beauregard?

It's bad enough he looks like a Kerbler elf.

He is named after the President of the Confederacy and a Confederate General.

Jefferson >>> Jefferson Davis, not Thomas Jefferson.

Beauregard>>> Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard

Note #1: "He was named after his father, who was named after his grandfather, who was named after Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederate States of America, and P. G. T. Beauregard, the Confederate general who oversaw the bombardment of Fort Sumter, starting the American Civil War".

Note #2: Apparently he was an an Eagle Scout; one of the two redeeming things about him.

Note #3: He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war (though I don't think he deployed... ), unlike his boss Cadet Bone Spurs; which is the 2nd redeeming thing about him.

No doubt, on a personal level, he is a "good" man/father/etc...

So is Berman of the deep state, or was he pressured by the deep state?

... maybe Sessions approved the pressure, but keeping his distance.

ACW trivia (never pass up a chance for pedantry)

Beauregard is credited with winning the first Bull Run. Actually he was an the right flank and the battle was on the left flank. Duh!

It was Jackson who won the battle, and Bell was in front of Jackson. But Bell got himself killed.

I suppose you could argue that the Zuaves won the battle. They kind of outflanked the Unions out flank.

So, like, at first, I thought it had something to do with the Russian investigation. Then it was brought up about Stormy and McDougal ... Now Mueller and Rosenstein have increased odds in the "dead pool"
.. so is this about Russia or not?
Was this a separate investigation on ...? campaign fraud? coercion .. some other "criminal" act??

I'm confused.

It's usually at this point in the TV-Drama that I switch to the Nature Channel to watch orcas eat seals or something like that.

Perhaps it seems odd, but the ACLU is against Trump for a variety of reasons ranging from his dumb wall to his views on immigration to Trump's position on torture to etc...etc... There is literally no reason why the ACLU would be supporting Trump right now... none... zero...

This "where is the ACLU" thing is one of the dumbest extreme right wing nut bag media memes. It only feeds the most gullible.

Oh! Here they are!

But we also believe in the rule of law as an essential foundation for civil liberties and civil rights. And perhaps the first principle of the rule of law is that no one — not even the president, let alone his lawyer — is above the law. And no one, not even the president, can exploit the attorney-client privilege to engage in crime or fraud. The attorney-client privilege has always included a “crime-fraud exception,” which provides that if you are using the attorney-client relationship to perpetrate a crime, there is no privilege.
